2 Things To Know About Your Diet and Blood Pressure:

  1. Eating foods high in salt (sodium) increases your blood pressure.

  2. Potassium-rich foods can help lower your blood pressure.

So let's dive into how to get salt out of your diet (and add more potassium):

  • Throw away your salt shaker! (Or at least take it off your table.)

    • Did you know that your taste buds will eventually adjust to less salt in your food?

  • Restaurants use a ton of salt - try to eat more at home.

  • Likewise canned and processed foods use lots of salt for taste and preservation. Try to go for fresh and natural options instead.

  • Always read food labels on any packaged food or drinks you buy in a supermarket. If the sodium (salt) is more than 300mg (0.3g) per serving, do not buy it. Also, watch out for other terms for salt such as: monosodium glutamate, sodium citrate, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium alginate.
