WHAT IS ASTHMA?

It is a chronic airway disease characterized by airway obstruction and difficulty in breathing

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA:

  1. Wheezing/whistling sound while breathing

  2. Difficulty in breathing

  3. Fast breathing and shortness of breath

  4. Cough: Occurs at night/during exercise

  5. Chest congestion/pressure

  6. Early awakening

MANAGING MY ASTHMA

Anyone with Asthma should aim to:

  • Eliminate asthma triggers

  • Reduce frequency of attacks

  • Manage symptoms


Understanding Asthma Stages:

Stage

WEEKLY ATTACKS

NIGHT AWAKENING

Mild Intermittent/ Stage 1

Less than twice a week

less than 3 in a month

Moderate Intermittent /Stage 2

More than twice but not daily

3-4 times in a month but not every week

Moderate persistent /Stage 3

Daily symptoms

More than once every week

Severe persistent /Stage 4

Daily symptoms more than once a day

Every night
